Mission

To create and maintain a 24-hour, 7-day radio network team that provides critical, life-saving information regarding safety and threat mitigation and recovery in emergencies.  During normal times, the Manhattan North Network radio team reports on development news and information to help coordinate the flow of services, resources and knowledge among residents.

The Manhattan North Network is a collaboration of  public housing resident associations in West, Central and East Harlem.  Trained emergency Radio Operators conduct regular radio checks, emergency activations and alerts and ongoing reporting  around the safety and quality of life of Harlem's public housing residents.

Grant Command trains residents in Emergency Preparedness, Emergency Communications and Streaming Community Reporting

 


Harlem Emergency Preparedness Day

Annually since 2012, the WHCR Emergency Broadcast Team, in partnership with Digital Divide Partners, WHCR 90.3 FM radio, CERT and others have hosted HARLEM EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS DAY to educate and inform the Harlem community about emergency preparedness.

Mobile Radio Training

We train residents in emergency mobile radio operations, protocols and procedures in order to keep our community safe and informed.  On-line classes are conducted by veteran FCC-licensed emergency mobile radio operators.




Streaming Community Reporters

Residents are trained to monitor and report on development building conditions, resident activities, public safety and health concerns.  Streaming producers are also trained to produce their own informational podcasts and vlogs.
